This four-part LivePlus™ online course is the perfect workshop for beginners and those with some experience of art journalling
Workshop details
Art Journalling is an art form that combines visual imagery and words within the context of a book format. There are really no rules so you can let your creativity flow. In this four-part workshop series Janina will lead you through the materials and techniques available to help you get started helping you to make art that is very personal to you.
Lesson 1 will start with a discussion about art journalling, including different approaches to this fascinating art form and an overview of the structure of the course. Students will be invited to outline any experience they may have (if any). The lesson will continue with an introduction to materials (paper, paint, pens, collage) as well as a demonstration on how to make your own rubber stamps. Janina will show you how to get started on an art journal page, and how to start to add layers and interest to the page using a mixed media approach.
Lesson 1 will conclude with further sources of reference, some journal prompts, and some specific exercises for student to do before the next session (if possible!) to help get started.
Lessons 2, 3, 4 will follow a similar pattern. We will start by a review of students work since the previous week and address any questions arising. Janina will then cover further materials, another ‘make your own’ project, adding images to your pages, more ideas for text and lettering and finishing the page. Further techniques across the series will include stamping, stenciling, using tape, and altering the page.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
Equipment & materials list
This list is for guidance only. You may decide that you have tools or objects that will do the job just as well. You needn't have the tools whilst watching the live demonstration – this is the time to watch, ask and learn. After the demo you will get the link to the recording. This then gives you maximum flexibility to choose how you want to approach this craft.
You don’t need much to get started. You can begin with just a sketchbook, a pen, a couple of coloured pencils, some images from a magazine and a glue stick!
Having said that once you get started you will likely want to try out different media in your Art Journal and you probably already have a lot of suitable materials. Janina will include a discussion about materials in each lesson so you may want to wait until the workshops start before buying anything.
If you do want to stock up beforehand then any of the following can be used:
For the first two ‘make your own’ projects:
