Samira is back online with Ardington and this time we are exploring a roundel pattern from the Alhambra in Spain in a variety of media.  This is Islamic geometry with a contemporary twist!
 

We begin with a blank sheet of paper. We'll draw a series of lines and circles to construct the underlying grid with a compass and straight edge. This allows us to trace three different pattern variations from the one underlying grid. We can then use the tracing paper to transfer on to watercolour paper.
 

Then we'll start to develop those patterns in exciting ways using watercolours, gouache, metallic paints, pencils & pens.  A wonderful opportunity to experiment with different techniques and really bring some zing to your roundels!
