We are delighted to welcome back Samantha Buckley for this four-week course exploring the beautiful world of painted Indian birds.
The tradition of painting birds started in the Mughal era in the 16th Century and continued well into the 18th century. Historically, these paintings capture the favourite hunting and domestic birds of the Emperor, but there are also many paintings which represent the different breeds of birds during the era of the East India company.
All Indian Miniature Paintings show the true beauty and fine detail of the birds, with particular attention being shown to their colours and textures. In this course we will study and replicate one painting in detail using traditional techniques of Indian miniature painting. You will learn how to prepare your paper, as well as the techniques of colour flooding and shading using gouache paint and inks.
Join us for a wonderful deep dive into the traditional skill of Indian Miniature Painting.
