Workshop details
This class is the first in our brand-new 'Studio Saturday' series - the closest we've come to replicating our onsite 'in studio' classes, online. Spend a whole day learning and creating, surrounded by a class of like-minded students, all from the comfort of your own home.
In this fun and informal workshop, Karen will be creating little layered landscapes with collage, print, and mixed media. Gather all your scraps of paper, a set of paints, some pastels, pencils, whatever you have, and prepare to play! These little landscapes can be used as inspiration for a bigger piece, sketchbook studies, or be little pieces of art in their own right – a perfect way to experiment with techniques and explore a theme through a mix of serendipity and intention.
We will begin by creating a pile of collage papers to work with – painting, printing, layering and doodling to make a lovely stash to dive into later. After a brief break to find the surface of our desks again, we will be exploring different approaches and starting points using photos and sketches as our inspiration.
Then, after our 30 minute lunchbreak, we will start the fun of cutting and sticking. We'll add in some printing, a splash of paint, a flourish of linework and a smattering of spattering! We'll work backwards and forwards through the processes – this is a very forgiving way to create an image – until you have produced a series of small samples.
We will be working across several images throughout the day to really free up your creative process – and give the glue time to dry!
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
- Creative approaches as starting points for landscapes
- Making and using collage papers
- Simple stamp-making
- Using a variety of media in combination with each other
- Choosing and using colour palette
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Karen will offer feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recordings of any tuition sessions on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
