Exploring Acrylics: Quirky Still Life

Looking at the work of Mary Feddon and contemporary artist Emma Dunbar for inspiration, we will create a quirky still life image using a combination of acrylic paints and mixed media.
We will use collage to create a base for our painting as well as a quick way of trying out composition – flattening the picture plane and simplifying shapes.
Working in layers of transparent and opaque paint to make a rich surface we will build our image, incorporating quirky objects and playing with inside/outside space to distort perspective and context. Add in a little surface pattern to disrupt the picture plane and add decorative elements and we will finish up with an interesting slightly abstracted piece of work.
