This ONLINE class is suitable for students of all abilities. 

'Contemporary Watercolours’ is a brand new series for 2026, brought to you by Karen Carter.  Each month we will explore different techniques to build a library of skills, while creating fun projects to use as cards, wall-art or simply to keep in your sketchbooks.
 

In this session we will be embracing all things seaside and summery before autumn sets in.  Working in an irregular grid format we will create a series of small studies exploring colour mixing, pattern, and a range of watercolour techniques using everything from salt to alcohol!
 

Be inspired by dappled light on water, foamy waves, patterns on a pebble, ripples in the sand, to create a decorative illustrative image – add some finishing touches with white and gold pens and of course a bit of spattering!
 

Indulge in a fun afternoon playing with paint and paper…the emphasis is on having fun with the materials and enjoying the process.  You can work along with Karen at a gentle pace or follow the demo in your own time.
