ArtTalk: Painting in Cornwall
Wed 29th April
2pm - 3:15pm UK Time
Tutor: Martin Beek
Bookings Close: 15 April
Perhaps few parts of Britain are more inspiring to landscape and seascape artists than Cornwall.
The twentieth century saw some of the biggest names in British modern art create in these parts; Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Bridgett Riley and Tim Hilton. The naive works of Alfred Wallis were hugely influential on both Nicholson and Christopher Wood.
This talk looks at the crucial artists who worked in Cornwall, either alone or as part of groups including The New English Art Club. Cornwall continues to inspire contemporary artists and Martin’s talk illustrates a few names to watch out for today.
Martin will provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following each of the talks via the class information page.
