Tues 7th July 2pm - 4:30pmThis class is suitable for students of all abilities.
Pat has taught many tree courses but mostly on the drawn-line of Winter trees with a just little on conifers and Summer foliage.
Capturing Summer foliage, the light, the shadows, the leaves and the layering of one patch against another when they’re all green, is a fair challenge. And the result is often something quite blocky and still…with little energy.
Browsing her work recently and thinking about the focus for this next new course, she was suddenly fired up, excited; it was a eureka moment. She came across a group of hidden gems in her sketchbooks. Not blocky or still - in every one of these, she’d let go, jumped in and just played.
Spots, dots, rings, light, cascading leaves, a bank of trees just tiny dots and looking at these now she could still feel the fun. “THAT’S what I want to teach!” she said. “A New Year, just going for it, singing colours or muted work: it would work with anything."
So, if you fancy trying something totally different, with unbridled fun, that will make you smile and KEEP smiling and amaze yourself then come along and join us for this.
Being Pat, of course, she never stays still, her work is always changing. She loves trying new things and new materials: don’t we all! So there’ll be collage slipped in at times -bits of washi tape, spotty tissue, scraps of handwriting...all adding to the fun, the unexpected, the richness of a landscape of Summer trees.
What to expect:
- You’ll work from photographs
- You’ll work a little from Pat’s own work, too, to get the feel and relax
- You’ll make some prepared grounds, with collage and a little paint, on white and toned paper
- You’ll play with line
- You’ll collect patterns and put them to use
- You’ll experiment, very simply, with distance
- You’ll inject light and energies into the mix with yellows and whites
- You’ll skill build, first, to get confidence
- And you’ll play with trees in a way you’ve never played before
And of course, Summer trees will just be one part of a picture. As you work, the fun will spread and it will all just grow together.
