This talk is suitable for students of all abilities
In this 'Discover the History of Fibre Art' talk, Ushma Sargeant will be offering an introduction to the history and development of fibre art techniques; from wet felted blankets of 5000 years ago to the modern day needle felting artform that Ushma uses to create her fibre art pictures. This talk will cover the history of felting from wet felting to needle felting and nuno felt.
Ushma will discuss the processing of raw fibres such as wool and silk before they are ready for use in her art and show you a variety of fibre samples and explain their unique properties and how she uses them in her work.
There will be a brief explanation of the materials and tools and demonstration of the creative techniques used to produce needle felted art. Ushma will also provide a helpful handout sheet with the key information covered in the talk and ideas for further reading and development.
Ushma will be teaching Fibre Art projects ONLINE with us during 2026, as well as her ONSITE classes at the Victory Room in Bucklebury.
The talk & demo will last for 60 minutes, followed by a 15 minute Q&A session.
