This class is suitable for those with some experience and is aimed at those who have completed the previous series of classes with Mary.
 

This is the penultimate class in the series of a one-year programme of twining. This focused, project based, class will be an opportunity to bring together some of the skills and techniques from previous classes in a project-based make.
 

We will be drawing on skills from flat to form, bases, warps, slits, edges and points plus pattern with colour and weave. If you didn’t attend some of these classes you will need a basic knowledge of twining in particular warps, slits, edges, and points. However, Mary will be demonstrating stage by stage how to make each part, and there will be some flexibility in how you choose to make your own pea or bean.
 

The morning session will introduce a new form, the pea pod! The pea pod will begin with a different start and include twining around warps with different thicknesses, these will become ribbed edges. Addition and subtraction of warps will be needed to make the form. To add surface detail to the pea we will add a pattern to the weave, thinking about combining threads to give colour. If you choose to, you could insert some beads inside the pea. To finish the pea will have a stalk.
 

In the afternoon session, the pea form will be developed into a bean. Starting from the beginning Mary will set up the bean, adding in warps to allow the form to flow out to make room for ‘pebble beans’. The pebbles will be inserted in the form as we go along so slits and edges will need to be part of the design. This is an opportunity to add patterns with colour. To finish, the bean will narrow to a point leaving a stalk.
