In this class we will explore tessellating patterns from across the Islamic Lands featuring sixfold stars. We'll be exploring the multiple outcomes when we vary angle, shape, detail and repetition.
We begin with a blank sheet of paper. We draw a series of lines and circles to construct the underlying grid with a compass and straight edge. This allows us to trace three different repeating units of pattern from the one underlying grid.
We can then use the tracing paper to transfer and tessellate the pattern seamlessly to create a larger artwork on watercolour paper. We will then complete our artwork using watercolours.
