This class is suitable for students of all abilities
Learn how to make two styles of soft cover books, including the popular Traveller's notebook style (previously known as Midori) and a chunky book with watercolour paper and a decorative wrapped stitch. Both books can be made with either leather or felt, depending on your preference. Janina will demonstrate all the steps for making both of these books and provided detailed written instructions for you to keep afterwards.
The Traveller's notebook is very popular because it is easy to make and has removable inserts, so that once an insert is filled it can simply be replaced with another. Janina will begin with cutting out the leather cover, and marking and making the holes. She will then demonstrate how to make three inserts using pamphlet stitch to bind these inserts, and two ways of making pockets in the insert covers. She will show you how to assemble the books with three removable inserts and elastic.
The second book will be a chunky book with a very attractive wrapped stitch binding and watercolour paper pages. To make the book she will cut the leather to size and will demonstrate how to prepare the inside pages to fit. The next step is to punch holes for sewing and the final step is to bind the pages and cover together using a wrapped stitch with thick waxed cord. Janina will show a further optional step of adding ribbon and a button for closure.
