This ONLINE class is suitable for students of all abilities. 

'Contemporary Watercolours’ is a brand new series for 2026, brought to you by Karen Carter.  Each month we will explore different techniques to build a library of skills, while creating fun projects to use as cards, wall-art or simply to keep in your sketchbooks.
 

In this session we will be working with resist techniques, exploring different materials such as wax crayons and oil pastels for coloured resists, and gel medium and masking fluid for layered resists.
 

We will create a set of samples looking at the different characteristics and qualities of each method and ways of applying the various mediums.  And, for something a bit different, there will be a demo of gouache wash-off technique (please note that this won’t be a work-along technique), which gives an effect that is bold and graphic.
 

Indulge in a fun afternoon playing with paint and paper…the emphasis is on having fun with the materials and enjoying the process.  You can work along with Karen at a gentle pace or follow the demo in your own time.
