Fibre Art: Towards Abstract

This one-day, ONSITE workshop is suitable for beginners with a little know-how and those with more experience.
You will be making your own colourful fibre ‘painting’ using a variety of fibre materials. Your finished piece will be approximately 20cm and mounted ready to frame.
You will be introduced to the tools and materials and shown how to use them. You will be guided to create your own piece, from finding your inspiration to choosing your materials and colours and through to the techniques and process of building your picture. Your tutor will be on hand at every stage to demonstrate and advise you while you work on your piece.
You will have the opportunity to add details and embellishments using the wide selection of fibres on offer including wool, silk, camel, alpaca, llama, angora, flax, seaweed, bamboo and nylon.Skills & Techniques Covered
- How to transform your chosen word(s) into an idea for a fibre piece.
- How to choose colours, shapes, textures and materials to accentuate the story of your piece.
- Needle felting onto a flat surface.
- Safety when working with felting needles.
- How to use the various felting needles for different effects.
- The properties of the different fibres and how you can use them.
- Use of colour and texture and composition in fibre
- How to finish a fibre piece
Materials are not included in the booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £40, payable to the tutor during the workshop. Tools will be available to use during the workshop and optional to purchase should you wish to continue working at home - approximate cost of these will be up to £35.
