Whispers of Maple: Textiles in Autumn Light
Sat 3rd & Sun 4th October
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Sarah Maddison
This workshop is suitable for those with some experience of free-motion embroidery.
The magical hues of autumn offer artists the chance to indulge in pure golds, bronzes, reds and ochres, creating the richest of palettes. Join Sarah to design and create your own unique textile artwork celebrating the beauty of Maple (Acer) trees.
You may choose to be inspired by the vibrant colours of the American ‘Fall’ maples, or reflect a more Japanese backdrop with the deepest red acers. Rather than creating complete tree portraits, we will focus on the unique and expressive shapes of the leaves. The choice is yours.
Skills & Techniques Covered
Using acrylic paints, you will first create your background. Then, working with a variety of textiles and stitching techniques — including straight stitch and free-motion machine embroidery — you will build your leaf designs.
The piece will be further embellished with hand stitching, embroidery and beads. Your finished artwork will be created in a square format, with the use of mountboard to support your design, making it suitable for framing in a standard-size frame.
Materials are not included in the booking fee. A basic fabric kit, including background fabric and stabiliser will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £20 payable to the tutor during the workshop. A pre-cut cream mount will also be provided along with the paint.
