In this online talk we invite you to take a virtual peek over Yvonne and Simon's garden fence as they open their garden in Bucklebury, Berkshire with the National Garden Scheme (NGS) for the very first time.

Their 1¼ acre developing cottage garden is now in its fourth year.  The sunny, south facing slope has a beautiful bourne running through it, as well as an orchard, blossom copses underplanted with bulbs, a wildlife pond, vegetable plot, glasshouses, rose arches, and - the grandchildren's favourite - a hand built treehouse.  Over the years they have added dry stone walls, a sun circle, and a stone garden with a rill; all creating a vibrant haven for wildlife.

Opening your garden for the NGS is both a rewarding and challenging experience. Using photographs and video of their garden, Yvonne will guide you through the whole experience including:

    • how to get involved and open a garden for the NGS
    • what preparations are required
    • some favourite garden projects and highlights
    • the importance of ‘extras’ such as tea & cake, and plant stalls - stalwart favourites with garden visitors!

The NGS opens over 3,300 private gardens to the public across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands each year through a programme of volunteers. Founded in 1927, it has donated over £77.8 million to nursing and health charities so far, raising over £3.8m last year alone.  Read more about the impact of their work here.

The talk takes place on Tues 12th May from 2pm - 3pm, followed by 15 minutes of open Q&A with Yvonne.
