Botanical Concertina: Print, Paint & Collage
onsite print workshop
Mon 19th October
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Karen Carter
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those with experience
Celebrate the rich colours and textures of autumn by creating your own unique botanical concertina book in this fun, experimental mixed media workshop. Using autumn leaves, seedheads and natural forms as inspiration, you'll explore a range of creative techniques including gelli plate printing, monoprinting, stencils, image transfers, collage and expressive paint applications.
Working layer by layer, you'll build richly textured surfaces with hand-printed papers, transparent colour washes, and playful techniques such as dripping, spattering and overprinting. You'll then combine these elements using a limited colour palette to create a series of harmonious botanical pages, full of depth, texture and seasonal character.
The beauty of this process is that it's intuitive, forgiving and encourages experimentation. Layers can be added, reworked and refined throughout the day, allowing you to develop your ideas at your own pace and create a book that is entirely personal.
Your finished concertina book will become both a beautiful artwork and a practical reference filled with techniques, textures and inspiration to revisit long after the workshop.
With plenty of step-by-step demonstrations, practical tips and individual guidance throughout the day, this relaxed and friendly workshop is perfect for complete beginners and anyone with a little creative experience. All you need is a large apron, an open mind, and a willingness to experiment and enjoy the process.
