Scraps to Stitchwork: Kawandi Quilting
Thur 4th June
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Christine Green
- This one-day onsite workshop is perfect for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh their hand-stitching skills. - Discover the beautiful and meditative art of Kawandi quilting, also known as Siddi quilting, a traditional craft practiced by the Siddi people of West India. Kawandi quilts are entirely hand stitched, offering a mindful, sustainable way to use up small fabric scraps. - You’ll learn this unique construction method, which begins with a fabric base. Small patches of fabric are appliquéd starting from the outer edge and worked gradually toward the center, secured with rows of simple running stitch. Each patch’s edges are neatly folded under, creating a richly textured surface. Wadding can be added for extra thickness, though it’s not required. - During the workshop, you’ll create an A3-sized panel—perfect as a wall hanging or cushion front—while exploring this therapeutic and slightly addictive slow-stitch technique. If you prefer, you may choose to begin a larger project that could later become a bag or small quilt. - All guidance, demonstrations, and plenty of encouragement are provided throughout the day. - Please note:
