Calligraphy on Paste Papers
Thur 31st July
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Mary Noble
This workshop is suitable for beginners with a little experience and those at a more advanced level
Paste papers are a lot of fun and the results are always exciting and often unexpected. If you found background washes or illustration tricky, but want to have some fun, this is for you. It’s messy and creative, using wallpaper paste and inks on cartridge paper.
We’ll make several different effects, exploring textures and colours, then when dry respond to the results by selecting an interesting area and deciding where to position your calligraphy. Wavy lines might suggest anything from gentle seas to raging anger, patterns may make you think of your garden…
This is the less-planned approach to creating calligraphic designs, in not knowing what might come up and having fun playing with possible outcomes. Everyone’s results will be different, which may inspire us for future ideas at home.
