This class is suitable for students of all abilities
In this workshop we will explore the wonderful world of the Victorian Puzzle Purse. In fact, the puzzle purse has a long history dating back to 8th century Japan, and has its origins in origami. By the early 1700’s they could be found in England and America being used to convey private messages, and flourished in Victorian times into elaborately decorated tokens of love!
We will cover the basics of the folding process then concentrate on the design and decoration of our puzzle purse, using William Morris as our inspiration creating a design that works with all the various facets and folds of the paper construction. We can also make a ‘cheats’ puzzle purse from printed patterned paper.
We will decorate our purses with watercolour, dip pen and a little bit of simple printing to create unique and charming items to hide a note to your loved one or give as a gift with a little hidden treasure inside!
A fun and informal workshop to introduce you to this addictive process (you’ll be making them for everyone by Christmas!) – suitable for everyone, no experience needed.
