Thurs 26th February 10am - 12pm
This class is suitable for those who have taken Mary's 'An Introduction to Twining' class with Ardington or those with a little experience. It is the second in a linked series of two-part workshops - full details are shown below.
This class will broaden your skills with the teaching of new bases and more ideas for borders. Week one will start with a refresher of the base used in 'An Introduction to Twining', followed by making samples of four new bases which will become a useful resource and addition to your sketchbox.
These bases will introduce different techniques for forming the base by crossing over warps, threading warps, creating patterns and shapes – square, rectangular, and triangular. In preparation for week two, Mary will also demonstrate how to work and reverse the direction of the twining.
Mary uses a woven cross over base in much of her twined work. She will be teaching this decorative base in week two. This base can provide a unique feature to a pod (a pod being a rounded form with an opening) if worked in a decorative thread. We will look at some of Mary's work to find inspiration to make your own work really special and individual to you.
The class will finish with additional ideas for finishing cut ends of a pod and a simple woven trac border to offer a really neat finish
Further classes in the series are as follows:
- Adding / Subtracting Warps & Finding Form: 12th & 26th March
- Slits, Edges & Points: 16th & 30th April
- Circle Starts: 21st May & 4th June
If there is enough interest, we will also be running three additional skill development classes later in the year:
- Pattern with Colour
- Pattern with Weave
- Pea-pod and Bean-pod Forms
