The Art of Wisteria: Chinese Brush
Sat 27th September
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Yvonne Sonsino
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those with experience
This one day workshop will introduce you to the mindful art of Chinese Brush Painting. We will use pictures of wisteria bough and blossom as a focus to develop a painting on Xuan handmade paper by the end of the day. The wisteria symbolises good luck and is said to resemble all stages of life – the strong knotty stem represents old age, the tendrils symbolise youth, and the buds and flowers childhood.
You will learn about traditional Chinese materials, (paints, brushes, papers, inks) and methods. We will use the freehand, or freestyle, method of painting during the day. It is a loose and flowing way to paint, freeing up the mind to be expressive, where skills in observation will be built to enable you to create a good image. We will learn about loading and tipping the brush correctly, mixing the best blend of pigments, as well as composing a good layout on the page. Time permitting we will add butterflies to our finished paintings.
Materials are not included in the booking fee. The tutor will provide all the materials for a small fee of £7 to be paid to the tutor on the day (cash only please)
