Pat Southern-Pearce has been enjoying working on handmade papers for ages but this fragile, speckled Mulberry paper, is a relatively recent discovery - it is in a class of its own and she adores it!
 

Mulberry paper is very different; it is wonderfully textural and rather fragile… but has SO much potential.  It's very cheap, too.
 

This paper responds beautifully to a limited colour palette -  blacks, browns, whites and just a touch of a colour, like blue for the sky or yellow for flowers.  It cries out for a mix of subtlety, restraint and freedom. A challenge, yes... but rewards in spades. 
 

You can work in gouache, inks, water, and even collage for pre-prepared backgrounds.  We will do this at the start of the first class, such a fun lead in to the medium.
 

During the classes you’ll enjoy the fluidity of blind drawing and free line using different tools. We'll be adding whites to bring smiles, especially fruitful on this paper, heightening the drama and atmosphere.  We'll be drawing with blues too - watching these as they interact with the whites to bring unexpected softness and atmosphere. 
 

Seeing and feeling textural buildings emerge over patterned collage and inks will be a game changer. Join us as we explore and celebrate this interesting paper together.
